Want better health? Eat better food. Nutrition First.

We can detect it early. Then what?

We can detect Alzheimer's early.

What to do about it?

Evidently, doctors are getting better at detecting Alzheimer’s earlier than ever before.

Decades before symptoms arise.

This would be great news if early detection led to any kind of treatment protocol.

Absent that what are we supposed to do with this information?

Let's talk about it.

🧠 We can see it coming

A recent study out of Mayo Clinic suggests that Alzheimer’s may begin decades before symptoms appear.

Not years.

Decades.

We can now detect changes in the brain long before memory slips, long before confusion sets in, long before a diagnosis is made.

You can read about it here: https://scitechdaily.com/alzheimers-may-begin-decades-earlier-than-you-think-new-mayo-clinic-study-finds/

This sounds like progress.

And in some ways, it is.

But it also raises a harder question.

If we can see it coming…

what are we supposed to do about it?

No course of action is proposed.

That would be because...

🧠 The docs still cannot fix it

For years, the focus of Alzheimer's treatment has been on one target: amyloid plaques in the brain.

The theory was simple.

Remove the plaques, and you slow or stop the disease.

And now, we can remove them.

But here’s the problem.

Even when those plaques are reduced… people don’t meaningfully improve.

Read the report for yourself here: https://scitechdaily.com/major-review-finds-alzheimers-amyloid-drugs-offer-no-real-benefit/

In this article, senior author Edo Richard, Professor of Neurology at Radboud University Medical Centre laments, “I wish I had an effective treatment to offer them.” He continues, "Existing approved drugs offer some benefit for some patients, but there remains a high unmet need for more effective treatments. Sadly, anti-amyloid drugs do not offer this and bring additional risks. Given the absence of correlation between amyloid removal and clinical benefit, we need to explore other pathways to help address this devastating disease."

We can detect the disease earlier.

We can measure changes in the brain.

We can even remove what we thought was the cause.

And still… no medications to restore the mind.

🧠 Meds? No. A clear course of action? Yes.

While some researchers have been looking for a medical miracle, others have already found and published hope.

  • A 2008 review (de la Monte, S. & Wands, J.) concludes that Alzheimer's is a form on diabetes.

  • A review or research on the subject and published in the Journal of Neurology (Henney, A.E., Gillespie, C.S., Alam, U. et al, 2024) concluded that high intake of ultra-processed foods is associated with dementia

  • In 2024 the German Society of Neurology (DGN) and the German Brain Foundation reported than excessive sugar intake can damage the brain.

  • An a study published just last week in Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring shares their findings that every 10% increase in UPFs intake is associated with higher dementia risk.

I could go on and on. But I don't need to.

The point is clear.

Food matters.

Sugar and ultra-processed foods are damaging our brains.

Remember this old Henny Youngman joke?
Patient: Doc, it hurts when I do this. (hits head with hammer) What do I do?

Doc: Then don't do that!

Each 10% increase in UPF intake was associated with lower attention scores (−0.05 points) and higher dementia risk (+0.24 points)"

🧠 Clear action indicated.

The evidence connecting diet and brain health continues to grow. It may not be perfect or complete, but I submit it is clear enough to act on.

We may not have a drug that fixes this.

But we are not without options.

We can begin today, with the choices we make at the grocery store, in our kitchens, and on our plates.

I’m not saying it’s easy.

In fact, tomorrow I’m sharing a video about how confusing it was when I first tried to make that shift.

I didn’t know real food from ultra-processed food.

I didn’t understand carbs.

I got tangled up in low-carb, keto, gluten-free…

And then I realized something even more basic.

Without package directions, I didn’t know how to cook!

That short-term confusion quickly gave way to my current clarity.

Learning how to scramble an egg and fry a hamburger may sound simple.

But for me, it changed everything.

Were you raised on The Standard American Diet?

If you’ve been meaning to start eating for Nutrition First but don’t know where to begin, I made a simple one-page guide you can use right away. You can find it here.

And if you’re ready to take the next step, the 14-Day Clear Mind Reset is now open.

Are you eating for Nutrition First?

Hope so!

Thank you for your time.

Until next week, let’s all stay strong, wise, and good.

☀️ We can take control

I was raised to believe doctors were gods of the human body.

The doc was always right.

If a doctor couldn't cure you, you couldn't be cured.

At this ripe old age, I have new perspective.

The docs only know what they were taught.

And they weren't taught about the power of food.

I'm Glad You're Here
