for Treating Alzheimer's Disease

Four years ago, I wasn’t looking for a cure.

I was looking for a way to slow my cognitive decline.

As I began researching, Dr. Dale Bredesen’s work showed up early. His lifestyle and diet approach overlapped with the MIND diet, my first breadcrumb on the path toward eating real food for brain health.

He gave me hope... even though I still didn’t believe I could improve. I was simply heartened to learn that serious people believed effective treatment might be possible, and that “treatment” didn’t necessarily mean a miracle drug.

Turns out, I was wrong to doubt that improvement was possible.

I did improve.

📓 What the study showed

A newly completed randomized controlled trial tested a personalized, multi-factor approach to cognitive decline, often referred to as the Dale Bredesen ReCODE precision medicine approach, against standard care.

Participants with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s were divided into two groups.

❌ Those receiving standard care continued to decline.

⭐ Those following the personalized, lifestyle-based protocol improved, and those improvements were sustained over time.

This was not a single intervention. The protocol addressed multiple factors, including food quality and nutrition, metabolic health, sleep, physical activity, stress, and targeted supplementation based on individual needs.

That combination matters.

Randomized controlled trials are rare in this space, especially trials that show improvement rather than simply slowing decline.

The results have been published and are now under peer review. That process matters, and the early findings are still striking.

🧠 Brain Connection

The brain is not separate from the body.

It responds to blood sugar, inflammation, nutrient status, sleep, and stress just like the rest of us do. When food quality improves and metabolic health stabilizes, the brain has a better environment to function, repair, and adapt.

This study does posit that individualized approaches matter, because people arrive at cognitive decline with different health histories and different underlying challenges.

That level of personalization can be helpful.

But it is not the only takeaway.

What stands out to me is that the foundation of improvement was not exotic or out of reach. The foundation is improving metabolic health through everyday lifestyle choices:

🗸 Sleep well

🗸 Move

And, of course,

🗸 Eat real food
